The forex market, also known as the foreign exchange market, is a global decentralized market where currencies are traded. It operates 24 hours a day, five days a week, starting from Sunday 5:00 PM Eastern Time (ET) until Friday 5:00 PM ET.

The forex market is divided into four major trading sessions: the Sydney session, the Tokyo session, the London session, and the New York session. The market hours vary depending on the session, as follows:

  • Sydney session: 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM ET
  • Tokyo session: 12:00 AM to 9:00 AM ET
  • London session: 3:00 AM to 12:00 PM ET
  • New York session: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM ET

It’s worth noting that the forex market can still be active during the overlap of two or more sessions, which can result in increased trading volume and volatility.
